As a child, Michael Simones had little interest in sports, and bases his story on how he handled his exclusion and bullying growing up. He hopes that his own experience will inspire healthy success in a new generation of children, and aims to promote inclusion for all.

I wanted to write a niche book for children experiencing bullying in elementary school and their parents. A book that can open up ideas and discussions to address and eliminate bullying.
A Different Kind of Boy is my true story of how, at such a young age, I tried two different ways to stop bullying aimed at me, and what worked and what didn’t.
A Different Kind of Boy can also be a helpful resource for parents of bullies. The bully learns this behavior somewhere. The behavior can be addressed through stories about how the victim feels and what they experience.
Connecting with others who share your interests can be a lifelong resource, especially when those interests are outside societal norms. If you feel different, seek friends who share your passions—you are not alone.
